Edinburgh City Chambers | Wedding ceremony ideas
So, you’ve decided you’re going to get married in the amazing city of Edinburgh and you’ve already chosen the Edinburgh City Chambers Register Office as your venue? Many congratulations – you’ve the makings of a wonderful day already. Now you’re looking for wedding ceremony ideas that help make your wedding ceremony truly yours. Well, with that I can help.
My name is Hannah Wroe Gill, I’ve been a professional writer for 16 years and I run three bespoke writing businesses: Words and Wisdom, Portraits in Prose and Your Three Days. Through Words and Wisdom I create a range of beautiful bespoke texts, written with a couple’s own words and/or those of their family and friends, that can be paired with the statutory wording within any Scottish legal wedding ceremony. I never need to be physically involved at any stage. I can write for anyone, anywhere.
Over time and across my 3 businesses, I’ve worked with hundreds of couples who want their ceremony to be as much their own as possible. Part of the joy of marrying in Scotland is that you’re allowed much more flexibility in terms of which personalised wedding ceremony ideas you can include, whereas the rules elsewhere can be far more restrictive. So you really can share a truly unique ceremony experience with your guests on your big day.
You might decide, for example, that you’d like a bespoke welcome, written in your own words, that gives real insight into all your marrying means. We could capture your ‘Story so far’, so your journey together is right at the heart of your wedding script. The words of loved ones can be incorporated too, say within a bespoke reading (or two), forming a text to accompany a symbolic act, like a hand-fasting, or as part of a well-wishing at the end. At the centre of it all of course could be your bespoke vows and exchange of rings – there are so many possibilities we can explore.
The process is uncomplicated. Once we’d agreed terms, we’d start to discuss in more detail the original elements you’ve hired me to write. I’d create some bespoke questions which you’d answer and then I’d get to work, interweaving all our nominees’ words into coherent text. Once we have something we’re excited about, we’d submit that text to your Registrars for their approval. Then, on the day itself, they’ll perform your ceremony, reading any writing that’s part of the core script, with any readers, and of course you both, reading your words when the time is right.
It’s an extraordinary thing to hear your own words and those of your family and friends as part of your legal wedding ceremony. Going through such a rewarding creative process together beforehand and asking people who love you to be involved too is such a special part of preparing to marry. On the day, there’s just nothing else like it…and you would also know that nobody else has ever had…or will ever have…the same.
If you’d like to find out more, just get in touch and let me know where you are in the whole process and any ideas you have. I’ll be delighted to hear from you.
